Suba Paoay Sand Dunes Adventures - All You Need To Know

For all adventurers out there, this entry is for you. If you haven't been to Ilocos Sand Dunes, you better include this on your bucket list. Riding this 4x4 vehicle off road was no joke. I've watched some videos of guests who visited Paoay Sand Dunes and I was like "Ok, that was fun!", but I didn't expect it to be SUPER FUN! You really need to go there and experience this yourself because not everything can be recorded on this ride (coz I find it very inconvenient and scary, lol). It was exciting and shocking at the same time. Suba Paoay Sand Dunes is the widest and most popular part of Ilocos Norte located near the Malacanang of the North and the legendary lake of Paoay, Ilocos.

We arrived at around 3pm, this was the main reason why we went to Ilocos Norte aside from the beautiful Pagudpud beach. As part of our itinerary, I researched on the things that we need to know before heading here. The Ilocos Sand Dunes is an 88sq km wide desert that lies behind the Suba Beach. The place is windy and this helps form the sand dunes in the area. This is the most popular sports/adventures in Ilocos Norte.

We rented a 4x4 to drive us across the Sand Dunes. The ride was very thrilling and exhilarating. I was screaming and laughing during the breathtaking uphill-down trails. It's like a roller coaster ride, darn I tell you. I'm serious! You can also rent an ATV for 30 minutes if you wanna explore the place. We just rented the 4x4 that day and we had a quick stop to the sand surfing area which was already included in the package when you rent a 4x4. Just a reminder, I wanna reiterate this, this is an extreme sports activity and adventure, if you have any injuries or you're feeling dizzy, or if you have any health problems, do not try this. Better yet, stay inside the 4x4 and advise the tour guides about your health condition. I'm not sure if they can change routes during the tour, but better inform them beforehand.

Keep your adrenaline pumping with their unlimited Sand Surfing. They gave us some tips, do's and don'ts plus a quick tutorial before we ride the sandboard. If you wanna try sand surfing, please wear the appropriate outfit. To be safe, at least a sports outfit for a comfortable ride and to avoid any injuries. Also wear a fitted cap and sunnies to protect your eyes from the sun and sand. Working our way up was a little tiring but it was really fun.

Just to compare, sand surfing is easier than water surfing. So, if you're good in water surfing or you're an experienced water Surfer, then this activity might be pretty chill to you.

You don't have to worry about taking group photos and videos here because the tour guides are well trained to do it for you. See for yourself!

How about a beach stroll at the shoreline of the West Philippine Sea? Oh yasss!

Jump shot?

These statues were inspired by the casts of the local comedy drama movie Temptation Island. Scenes were filmed in this area way back 2011 starring local stars like Marian Rivera, Rufa Mae Quinto, Heart Evangelista, Lovi Poe and Solenn Heussaff.

Inspired by the popular Filipino action-fantasy movie Panday starring Fernando Poe Jr.. The movie was also filmed here way back 1980.
